It errs me greatly...

...that vegans would not hesitate to kill an insect based on 'it carries diseases' even though humans are more likely to transfer diseases to one another than an animal is. Zoonotic diseases are far less prevalent than non zoonotic diseases between humans.

All animals have a right to life, and it is not they're fault if they are born to be parasitic or to carry pathogenic material in their bodies or on their bodies.

*sigh*

  1. Just a thought regarding insects... In my way of thinking I don't know that we should feel so terrible about swatting at a bug that is doing us harm. That's the only insect I would ever consider harming because it falls in my line of the "self defense" reasoning. I do think every being is allowed to protect their bodies from damage. Ticks, fleas, mosquitoes and other such blood-sucking and biting beasts are, in my mind "fair play".

I'd never harm a ladybug, caterpillar, worm or other non-threatening bug... Simply because there is no reason to! I think one can only live the doctrines of "no harm" to the extent that there is some reciprocation. If you're being attacked, violated or your health and well being is being compromised - I don't think you should judge yourself too harshly by protecting your best interests when there's no other choice but to do so!

Hope that helps just a bit... BTW spiders and Daddy-Long-Legs are very helpful creatures that take care of "bad bugs". ;)
